Is it Only Applied to Children?
Although fissure sealants are usually associated with children, they are not a treatment exclusive to them. Yes, they are more commonly used in children because newly erupted teeth are more sensitive, but the application is not limited to age.
In some adults, the chewing surfaces of teeth may also have deep grooves. This increases the risk of cavities over time, just like in children. It can also be considered as a preventive measure for individuals who are more prone to decay or who struggle to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Regardless of age or condition, the main purpose of fissure sealants is always the same: to prevent decay before it starts and to keep the tooth healthy for as long as possible.
Does it Completely Prevent Cavities?
This is the most important point to understand correctly. A fissure sealant is not a 100% guaranteed protection.
But we can say very clearly:

How Long Does it Last?
The durability of a fissure sealant varies from person to person. In general, it can protect the tooth for several years. Although it is applied once, its effect provides long term protection.
In most cases, this protective layer lasts around 2 to 5 years. However, the key point here is not to skip regular dental check ups. During these visits, the condition of the sealant is evaluated and, if needed, it can be easily repaired or renewed with a small adjustment.
